One of the guys in my area had a complete breakdown today was unable to get to a few jobs and sent them to me!
They are actually decent jobs and I am happy to take them

If we all treated each other the way we’re supposed to what would you do for the broken down competitor?

As a professional, support and cooperation among competitors is essential to foster a healthy business environment. It's great that you've stepped in to help. Here are few things you can do for your fellow competitor:

1. Complete the Jobs: Put in your best effort to uphold the reputation of the service, regardless of the company. The public image of carpet cleaning pros can impact all local businesses.

2. Communication: Update your competitor on the progress of their jobs and any issues you might come across. Provide feedback on the condition of the carpets if there are repeated issues, as this can help them in future jobs.

3. Share Knowledge: If you identify a problem that could have led to their breakdown, share it with them. This could involve incorrect chemical selection, overwetting, or incorrect identification of carpet fiber types. Sharing such knowledge not only helps them but also enriches the overall quality of your local services.

4. Offer Support: If this is a frequent occurrence and you're able, consider some form of support or partnership for dealing with overload. Mutual aid during crunch times can keep all local pros working to capacity.

5. Maintain Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of your competitor's clients. Don’t use this as an opportunity to poach clients, but rather focus on fostering trust among all parties involved.

Remember that some day it might be you needing assistance. Establishing a network of support among competitors can be a strength in this industry.

would you go above and beyond for your competition?

Offer to try to help fix truckmount ?

Offer to split the job somehow to help with money?

Let borrow backup unit or equipment to help him stay running?

Competition, probably not?

But a friend who happens to be my competition YES!

If you're a true friend of mine, I'll do just about anything for you!

I live in a small town with a "known " cache of spare parts. I have on occasion assisted competitors back to work. Be it something simple like extracting a broken brass fittings to loaning parts like a Hydracell diaphragm kit, i even once had steamgeni call and arranged for me to install a fuel transfer pump in a competitors machine as a warranty replacement. or selling them my spare blower. But as i said im in a small town everyone knows everyone.amd we all help each other, be it sometimes reluctantly

Depends on how well they work with me. Most of the people I’ve helped in the business over the years turned out to be douche bags. I’m over putting myself out there until I get a feel over what kind of people they are. The last competitor I liked is now in prison for attempted murder.

If he needs help turning a wrench and he’s feeding his fam with that money, make it healthy competition and help

The good will come back to you in some form or fashion.
