Explain glides to me

If you take your hand across the bottom of a wand with a glide hole or slot, no matter where you touch there is vacuum. If you take your glide off then touch the bottom of the glide you feel no vacuum just airflow around your hand.

I don't really understand your question and I'm not trying to be a smart ass.
What i mean by my statement is there is always Vacuum on my slot/holed glide. When you take your unguided wand and pick one side off the floor you loose vacuum "least resistance". I don't know if that mean any thing just my observation.

the area of open space can be measured in sq in

example, ( I'm really bad at math fo-reel, so I hope I have this right)
if distance between wand lips is 1/4" and wand is 12" wide, that's 3 sq inch of opening

I don't have a glide, and any wands I have would be buried in the pole barn somewhere, so I can't measure.
But don't think the opening on a slot glide is all that different (smaller) than the unglided wand lip opening .
so they should be pretty much the same in your "feel" test

no clue how to calculate hole glide sq in
the only thing I know about Pi, is that I like peach pie the best

I used a glide when they first came out for about two years. When the glide needed to be replaced, I had to use the wand unglided. Yes I noticed that it was a lot harder on the body but drying times were MUCH shorter. After a few weeks of going unglided, I got used to it. So I will clean unglided until I physically need to use one.

Well, I’m using a Rotovax CFX and if I lay out that kind of money, it’d be on a 12” devastator (I hate closets and cramped areas with the RUW).

The wand sits higher than the last one I had and sold. Same basic design. This one needs to be bent a titch more sharply at the head to drop the back end about a foot. Then it would be much more comfortable and less likely to wind up being flung at an innocent jogger.

as far as ergos, it's one of the greatest upl tools in the history of the world .
It cleans pretty well too

Best tool for piping is the pmf internal jet tool. Piping fits between the lips and you just move it along.

So I had a chance to use an unglided wand today for the first time in a long time. Doing a 3 bedroom townhouse with a 200 ft hose run with my back up truck and backup wands as well. 1 is a 6 flow aw 29 unglided which was set up for the truck and the other is a lower profile aw 29 with a 3 flow and glide set up for a portable. I was actually expecting to use a portable on this job but by good fortune I got the only parking spot that gives me access to the inner courtyard. I started with the 6 flow unglided, because that flow works well with the TM. Did about half the living room before I said, "Fook it", and switched to the lower flow but glided wand. The difference in how it moves across the carpet is astounding when you compare them back to back. I use a slot glide which has about the same aperture as the steel glides and you can still feel the wand sticking to the carpet. I feel the rate of extraction is about the same. The big difference is how your back and shoulders feel at the end of the day. For those of you still using unglided wands. Get with the modern world, your body will thank you.

Teflon or Delrin glides have a lower coefficient of friction which means they move easier. Think of comparing fire food in a metal pan versus a Teflon pan. By the time you clean a living room the size of 400 frying pans, you'll notice the difference.

Next question: who calculates the bend angles on these things? To hold my wand flat to the carpet, the back end is up above my elbow.
When I get the chance I plan to take it to a muffler shop and have the tube bent to lower the back end by a good foot, for comfort.
